Elks Care, Elks Share -Are YOU an Elk?

Elk Lodges bring so much to their communities -they are places where neighbors come together, families share meals, and children grow up in a safe supportive environment. Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet needs, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans.

So you’ve been thinking about joining the San Rafael Elks Lodge...

What are your first steps?

If you know a current Elk member contact them and have them bring you to the Lodge to experience a social evening, or to a larger event to experience the fun.

The Process

The Elk who proposes you for membership can help guide you through the application process. The entire process can take a month to six weeks - an interview must be scheduled, attend an Orientation, and initiation takes place the second Wednesday of each month.

1. After your proposer fills in the required portion, fill in your section of the Application for Membership, following the instructions and answering all questions. Either return the completed application to the lodge office or put in the Secretary Mailbox in the Lodge lobby.

You may also fill out the application digitally - ask your sponsor to invite you via elks.org to become a member. You will be sent an online application to complete, which  automatically goes to the Lodge Secretary for processing.

2. Your application will normally be read at the next regular Lodge meeting. You will be contacted either via mail by the Lodge Secretary with a welcome letter inviting you to our Investigative Committee (interview), or by a phone call from the Membership Committee Chair.

3. Attend an Orientation to find out more about the Elks in America, our local lodge, and how we are structured.

4. Once the interview is concluded, the committee will report to the Lodge concerning your membership. The members will be given a notice not less than 10 days nor more than two months before the vote will be taken. When the vote is concluded, you will be notified by our Lodge Secretary with a date to return for indoctrination (initiation). Initiations are conducted on the second Wednesday of each month.

After your initiation as an Elk, you may then take part in all meetings and social functions of the Lodge.
