5 PM – Welcome and social hour
Each year the San Rafael Elks Drug Awareness Program (DAP) sponsors the Camarena Awards Dinner, to honor a local law enforcement officer who has made a significant contribution in the field of drug awareness, intervention and prevention:
2022 Winner Josie Sanguinetti
2021 Winner Mark Reischel
****The Camarena Awards are named after Enrique Camarena, a DEA agent who was captured and killed by drug traffickers he was investigating in Mexico in 1885. Clubs were formed where youth wore red ribbons and pledged to lead Drug Free Lives. The Elks have supported Red Ribbon Events since 1988, and the San Rafael Elks Lodge has been active in this movement by sponsoring an Annual Camarena Award and Dinner.
